Each summer the club has a sports day, which is held on a sunday in July or August and hosted by one of the Club members - usually Brian McQuade or Richard Wilson. After some very cloudy and wet weather our sports day saw the first day of summery weather for a long time. A great deal of work went into making the day a success. Richard brought the table tennis and barbeque; Brian (left) and Joy prepared the grounds and facilities. |

Mike and Anne brought
and assembled the Gazebos. The barbeque was soon being used. |

After lunching on salad,
cheese, items from the barbeque and cake we were ready to start the sports
events.
Boules was a new sport
for this year and proved to be very enjoyable. Young Joseph (right) was
keen to join in. |

The golf prize was won
by Alf after a knock-out final round, but he had to make do with a substitute
trophy! The real trophy, polished for the
occasion, was presented to Alf at a club meeting in August.

As usual a variety of activities were organised, none of which were too energetic, if Lawrence’s photographs are anything to go by. People appear to be sitting or standing around, not much movement! It was a warm and dry day and everyone enjoyed themselves. Thanks
go to Richard and Jean for their hospitality, the use of the garden
for the afternoon and to Jean for preparing salad for everyone. |

Sports Day Joy and Brian McQuade opened their historic gardens to the Rotary Club of Shepperton's Annual Olympics. Joy is not unfamiliar with things Greek, this superb skill and local knowledge gave her all that she needed to take the Croquet prize. No need for suntan cream this year although the afternoon was mostly dry with some sweet moments. |

Left: Yvette awarded the Golf Cup to our host Brian and gave warm handshakes to the other winners, Val, Joy and Richard. Brian cracked some of his excellent sparkling red, which reminded your editor of wheelbarrows until he realised that he was standing next to one. |

Apart from the excitement of the sporting contests, it was very enjoyable to have relaxed conversations and to savour the delights of the barbeque (thoughtfully provided by Richard) and the stunning creations on the dessert table. It is hard to believe that we can do better on the sports field next year but this is a not to be missed event. |
||||||||
Many thanks to Brian & Joy. |
