Race Night

Every year the Rotary Club of Shepperton holds a fund raising 'Race Night'.   The International Committee organises this enjoyable evening as one of its major fund raising activity.

The races are videos of real races with eight runners, but all we are told are the numbers of the horses. To raise funds, each race and each horse has a sponsor, who makes a donation to the fund. Race sponsors also provide prizes for first and second place.

Our guests can place bets at the start of each race, watch the video and, if they are lucky, collect some winnings at the end!

Surrounded by Sandown and Kempton Parks, Twickenham and Ascot, Shepperton is a little sport free oasis … until Race Night.

Eddie Waring (Eric) did a fabulous job of rounding up the horses,  John McCrirrick (David Fear) worked out some real ‘odds’, Pan’s People (formerly ‘the Rotaractors’) did the difficult job of extracting the money from the race-goers and watering was managed by the Keith Floyd twins (Brian and Pat).

As usual everyone had a super time and the fish and chip supper went down well.

March 15th 2001

Shepperton Rotary Race Night, Organised by Brian Hewes, International Chairman, and presented by Dick of Thoroughbred Racing.

We had a splendid number of guests for the event in St Nicholas' School and the Shepperton Rotaractors kindly gave their time as 'tote tellers'.

They're Off!

ven though the races were on film the excitement was enough to ensure the race crowd encouraged their horses with shouts and cries!

The films are selected at random immediately before the off.

Tables were laid out for the parties of race goers and a fish and chip supper was served mid time.

There was an extraordinarily well run bar (John & Pat)

And everyone enjoyed the excitement including the raffle and Tricast with a prize of £50

The evening's profits went to the Rotary Club of Shepperton's International Projects.
