Paul Harris Award 31st July 2000 - Lawrence Collins July 31st was another hot evening, the weather being all over the place in the UK this summer. (At the weekend there were heavy rainstorms and at times it was very cold). Immediately after the meal our President spoke to say that the heart of Rotary was about Rotarians, the individuals who embody the qualities of humanity and thoughtfulness, who were caring and intelligent. It is good to be a Rotarian and enjoy the fellowship of a diverse and extended family, not only with our fellow club members but with other contacts like Joe Homan and his Indian village and the youngsters who will now be enjoying the quality that the East London Rotary Village will bring to their lives. It is an honour to work with individuals who are 'always there' and Lawrence Collins is a case in point, having joined Shepperton Rotary in 1981. Lawrence was President in 1986, he has served as Treasurer and Secretary and, with his wife Pauline, has provided a great deal for the local community.
It was the President's honour and pleasure to award Lawrence, on behalf of the Club, the highest award in Rotary namely the Paul Harris Fellowship. The Club gave long and vigorous applause.
