My secret life as a drag artist

On June 11th 2001 Sue Jackson, school teacher and Club President-Elect 2002-3 gave a talk about her activities with custom car racing.

Sue explained that 'street racing' started in the USA.  Two cars run side by side from a standing start.  The track is now a standard 1/4 mile.  Cars cost about £25,000 and do 0-60mph in 1.8 seconds, 0-160mph in 8 seconds for example.

Sue's car is a 611bhp 350 cubic inch Chevrolet.

Sue is a competitor in the Custom Car Street Eliminator competition which runs from April to October each year. So far Sue has done the following:

  • Obtained a race licence
  • Registered with CC mag
  • Joined SPRC
  • Completed observed passes
  • Entered the car in Rounds 1 and 2
  • Rolled the car in Round 3
  • Missed Round 4
  • Entered Round 5

The next step is to upgrade the fuel to nitrous oxide which will make the car go faster.
