Chernobyl Children's Life Line
  Christmas Project

Steve Mowbray

Once a year Steve Mowbray (pictured left), a member of Reigate Rotary Club, comes to inform us about his most recent trip to Belarus to take Christmas gifts to children still suffering the ill-effects of the radiation resulting from of the Chernobyl disaster.

Shepperton Rotarian Alan Barber organises the collection of toys each year; collections are organised in other areas as well. Steve takes around 2,000 gifts to be distributed to 500 children in Belarus during the ten days before Christmas. He visits cancer hospitals and orphanges across the country, travelling some 2,500 kilometres. Whilst in Belarus they try to have Christmas parties and take children from the orphanage out for a treat such as going to the circus.
All toys are of a good quality, brand new and are wrapped in Christmas paper.  All the help in raising the money needed & wrapping and sorting the toys comes from local schools, Rotary clubs, Town's Womens Guilds and so on. Stephen Mowbray and Carol Ariel organise this project on behalf of the charity Chernobyl Children's Life Line.
