A total of £125 was raised; it went to provide basic education for needy children in South Africa.

Incredible levels of skill were shown by Rotarians and guests all of whom managed to keep afloat and dunkless.

Strangely George seemed unable to keep his canoe going in a straight line at all.

Again this year we had a great day as George's guests at Whitewater Canoe Day. I thought that prizes for style were inevitably going to go to Messrs Dethick and McQuade, mean paddlers both, ‘till George stole their thunder by a display of what I'm told is called a Rodeo Canoe. As far as I could see it seems to involve wrapping yourself in a canoe skirt and then trying to drown yourself by turning upside down in it. No one wanted a turn.

On the subject of drowning, Findlay the Float failed to fall in. Sorry all of you that had cameras ready. Perhaps he did not want to look a fool in front of his son and new daughter in law. But we know better don't we?

A nesting grebe and a family of coots kept us company. Good company, good food and £125 raised, which George chose to donate to the Educare Centre at Sinebhongo Rainbow Village.

And that was great timing as we were able to give it in person as " real money " to Brian and Barbara Giller from South Africa when they were our guests next day at our weekly meeting.
